The Project
For class we were asked to create a suit of armor made of recycled materials. We would then compete with other teams in the class. I was determined to win this, and to do this I would need a wow factor.
My Approach
I was looking everywhere for ideas, I went with futuristic looking armor and wanted to think of something that would pop. I was watching the Avengers and saw how they made Captain America's shield expand and thought I should do something like that.
Bumps in the road
I went through a lot of models trying to think of a way to get the shield to fit in a small space and expand properly with minimal effort. Additionally after constructing it, I gave it to the model to try out and realized an issue with the dimensions due to different arm and finger lengths, and had to adjust it accordingly.
Finished product
The final shield expanded using a string connected to two thin planks of wood that were hinged onto the gauntlets. They retracted using Rubber Bands
