Mushu Costume
The Project
I wanted to try my hand at a bit more complicated sewing project and also try my hand at designing a costume. I wanted to try modifying an animal character into a human character and I love the character Mushu from Mulan and thought It would be fun. As this is my current project, it is a work in progress and will be updated as I further it.
My Approach
I started by looking for when the story is set, which is the Northern Wei dynasty. So I looked at armor from that period, specifically higher ranking individuals armor. I also took inspiration from emperors armor as dragons were a symbol of royalty and status. I also took into account the spikes down the back, snakelike body, and based the cape on a scene later in the movie where the character pretends to have wings.
